When does a Mitsubishi eclipse start to have problems?

I was thinking about buying a 1998 Mitsubishi eclipse rs, but the only problem with it is that it needs a new timing belt. A mechanic told me dad that once it needs the timing belt everything else in the car starts to have problems. Can you share your input or tell me if you have a eclipse how your car is doing. Thank you for your time.|||I own a 2001 eclipse and LOVE MY CAR. Bought it brand new and now has over 125K miles. If the one you are considering has been well maintained, I'd highly consider it.

I do the regular oil changes, tire rotations, etc and have had only regular issues, such as freeon, brakes, suspension. It gets AWESOME gas mileage (29 on the highway.)

I'd warn you that mine seems to go through tires, but I buy the performance tires.

Check out Consumer Reports on line or at your local library and be sure to get a background history on your car at carfax.com|||1998 Eclipse timing belt? HELLO! DSM's are PRONE to need new timing belts! And if they are raced like on the drag stip, SOMETIMES! they break and you need a new one. The mecanic was smoking weed....... JK bue seriously. God bless.

|||well a close friend of mine has owned 3 eclipse's n has done everything you could possibly do to a car. he tells me all the time how they were built was a nightmare n they fall apart all the time. he said the faster models are worse. seeing how the rs is the base model you might be ok. you just gota keep it well maintained.
