Is it ok to install a turbo charger or a supercharger in a mitsubishi lancer 1991 model for added horsepower?

my mitsubishi lancer 1991 model is only a carburator type and is only 1300 or a 1.3L gas displacement. will a turbo charger or supercharger have a good effect or a bad effect. what else can i do to gain more horsepower?|||Its not worth it wit hthat engine.

1. Its carbureted and carbs work off of pressure differential to meter fuel in short. Adding pressure will cause the carb to dump fuel unregulated into the engine and flood the motor.

2. Chances are you have got a ton of miles on the car and normal wear and tear on the piston rings and other bears will be sure to cause a failure.

My suggestion would be go and buy a newer evo, or engine swap if it will fit.|||hell no it will blow ur f***** car up!!!!|||Just change your engine. Try the engine of the Eclipse, that should do the trick, Good Luck! :-)|||u can put a turbo onto anything u want.

just use ur head and dont go putting like 20psi and u will be fine use a normal stock kinda turbo and u should be good.

there is a good bit or work that goes into a turbo kit though u might wanna look at doing a COLD AIR intake for the car and put an exhuast system on it.

those 2 things should help with some power|||you could toss a turbo on it, but you'd need to go with a weaker 3psi or maybe 5psi, but the only problem is, in the long run u may lose horsepower due to your engine being carburated, look for the supercharged engine out of an older eclipse or eagle talon if they'll fit, or buy a eagle or an eclipse and work with that, it will be easier to just buy a strong supercharger|||you can put a turbo but say bye to ur motor and hello to many trips to the shops.

DONT do it. It will take a lot of money , mods, and trips to the shop to work all the kinks out. Turbos are high maintanance, especially with an older model vehicle.

If ur car is N/A...keep it that way

but if you have money to burn, do what you please.|||just do a 4G63 mitsu engine swap from an evo. that'll give you 285 hp and have an awsome sleeper. that'll probably cost you more than the car is worth though. SO you would be better just buyign an older gen. evo and going from there. Since an evo is already turboed, it should have enough power, and you can always upgrade to a bigger t/3 t/4 turbo later. stay away from superchargers, they don't work good on inline 4 cylider engines. leave em alone for the guys with their stangs'
