What is the Standard Equipment a 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS and what is a Variable transmission?

Can you give me links for standard equipment in a 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS and what does a variable transmission mean, is it automatic or manual? Please explain to me in details.|||If you want to know what a "Variable transmission" is, just visit this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continuously_variable_transmission

It is generally known as a CVT (continuously variable transmission). It's closest to running like an automatic trans. in that you do not do any shifting of gears. CVT's do not have hard set gears, but instead have an infinite range of drive ratios of engine speed to drive wheel speeds. That URL above will provide plenty of answers to better explain it. A super durable belt is the driving link between the engine and the rest of the drive train. It is manipulated via disks changing drive ratios between engine and wheels.

Of course there are many types of CVT's and some do not even use a belt at all. There are some really clever designs out there.

As for standard equipment on "Mitsubishi Lancer GTS" see this link: http://www.mitsubishicars.com/MMNA/jsp/lancer/10/index.do#/?page=index

Info is for the 2010 model, but the 2009 model is essentially similar (if not the exact same) in specs.
